An Augusta neighborhood mailboxes vandalized

Four homes on the same side of the road in a newly developed Augusta community have their mailboxes vandalized. Neighbors want justice for the people who damaged their property they now have to repair.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Four homes on the same side of the Clarkston Road in a newly developed Augusta community have their mailboxes vandalized Saturday night.
One of the neighbors has their mailbox knocked fully off of its post, by one of the vandals.
Neighbors who live on the road don’t think the people who did this should get off easy for what they did to their property, they said.
Ann Lewis, didn’t find out her mailbox was dented until a deputy came to the house to let her know, she said.
Now that her mailbox is dented, she said she will have to use a hammer to try to fix the dent.
Down the street from her, three more homes were also hit by the vandals, including Marcus Hillary’s mailbox.
He tells News 12 he didn’t know it was vandalized until News 12 showed him the damage, which he said he couldn’t believe because the neighborhood is very quiet.
Hillary is still able to use his mailbox, but said the repairs were not something he planned to deal with.
If deputies do find out who committed the crime he would like to press charges so the people who committed the crime can learn from their mistakes and understand what they did, he said.
His neighbor, Lewis though would just like the vandals to pay to fix her mailbox so she doesn’t have to, she said.
If the vandals are caught by deputies, they could face federal charges if the postal service takes action against them.
